Spoon - Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga

Sounds pretty sweet... I saw Spoon at the Starlight Ballroom in Philly in April and they played a handfull of newer songs and everyone ate them up. The band seemed pretty pleased with themselves. Mike if you could compare this album to Gimme Fiction, which would you say is the stronger album? Just out of curiosity

well, i wasn't a big gimme fiction fan...i thought it was *good*, but i found it (and girls can tell) a little boring. i think if you liked gimme fiction but felt a little let down that they'd abandoned some of the creativity of kill the moonlight, you'll appreciate this one.

Great review. Personally, I think the last 3 songs are the highlight of the album. "My Little Japanese Cigarette Case" calls back to the A Series of Sneaks days, which I really appreciate and "Finer Feelings" is probably my favorite song on the album. It just moves so well. "Black Like Me" has a whole Day In the Life feel I can't help but admire. It's a shame they barely played any of this album when I saw them on the 4th. Sounded like they were touring for KtM and GF exclusively, to be honest.

I adore Spoon. I've had this album for something like two months, or, rather, when it first leaked to normal people, so I've had the chance to hear this album like a journalist gets to, which is beautiful. I think it's fantastic, right up there with Kill the Moonlight and Gimme Fiction. Spoon is just good. I mean, really, much like the New Pornographers or the National, Spoon are just straight up good. I can't imagine them releasing anything bad. Ever. Kill the Moonlight has been on repeat for me for 2 weeks straight. I love it.

But Travis, tell us - how much do you like Spoon? As for the review, I`m feeling spoon-fed.

Seems like you're not about to go Ga Ga for "Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga" which is a shame because this is clearly their best album. Whether or not that's a waste of an album title or not it says a lot more to me than current titles like "Sky Blue Sky" or "Neon Bible." "Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga" speaks to me on a basic, instinctual level - like love or other strong emotions - which is what good rock and roll is often about. And so we have this. And so we have you.

Sheesh, trying a little hard to be profound, are we? "...these have always been within Spoon’s grasp, but rarely have they felt as unified as they do now, a baby’s first word burped up five times..." Wow! How deep! I like the album enough, and also happen to find this review rather contradictory at times. Oh well. Where's Florenz6 when we need him to chime in and tell us whether we should be listening to this or not? I guess he's busy surfing off the south coast of Lanzarote.

And what IS it with bands singing about snot? From "Oh the snot, it is caked against my pants" on Forever Changes to today, it seems like bands are forever singing about snot!

Did anyone see how skillfully c-dub just dropped the Love reference? Dang! His comments are even more boring than I thought they could be. I guess Spoon didn't throw in enough electronic filigree to maintain his attention.

I've been listening to this more. I still think it's exceptionally slight, but the thing I dislike about it the most are the lyrics. I just don't like these lyrics. They're not as bad as Interpol lyrics, I will admit.

Man, I woke up one day and didn't hate this album any more. I mean, I literally woke up one day, wanted to hear it, and didn't hate it. Surprise!
