whoa i dunno if i'm more surprised that the-disexists admitted to liking something or that they can post normally. no offense-like. i sometimes enjoy reading things i can't understand. sometimes, no so i skip bits. this album, i might buy it.

Hysterical. The disexists had to ad another comment to let someone know that he liked the album. "Communication involves other people", indeed.

About the album: it sounds a LOT like Mouse on Mars, circa Vulvaland. And like that album, it's high on the "wall of sound" atmospherics, but it still seems lacking in substance. And while Vulvaland evoked dubby, psychedelic soundscapes, this album doesn't spark much at all. Who knows, maybe repeated listens will reveal more depth.

Idiology, and indeed most recent Mouse on Mars, is far more aggressive and glitchy than their early work. Vulvaland isn't uniformly good, but the first track ("Frosch") is simply wonderful, and the rest of the album is neat too. By comparison, Basic Channel has a similar aesthetic but everything I've heard from them is either dark, insistent techno or dark, smoky dub. Quite different from The Field, which is decidedly upbeat (if not "pretty"). A closer comparison would be Gui Boratto's "Beautiful Life", but even that is too crisp and precise. The Thomas Fehlmann reference is close, too, but not quite there. However, DM's comment that "Willner’s precise reconstruction of old sounds and songs feels somehow old-hat and startlingly inventive" is very apt. The Field appears to sound like a lot of things, but when you go listen to those albums you realise they are more dissimilar than you had thought. Quite a trick, there. I've never heard any Nonplace Urban Field so I can't comment. Is there anything you would recommend?

God, I love this album. When the Flamingos doo-wop sample came up in the last track I thought I was going to faint.
