Ryan Adams - Rock N Roll

I just came across this review by accident and while I realise it’s old I guess it moved me enough one way or the other to respond. On one hand I agree with Josh's comments - Rock’n’Roll was a little derivative and I think I only really liked one or two songs - but y’know on the whole, despite his arrogance and inconsistencies he writes beautiful songs and why does he have to remain faithful to his roots? why can't he release a obvious, vaguely pretentious rock album also? Noone seemed to mind when Westerberg released a handful of woeful MOR tripe back in the mid 90s... I mean, don't get me wrong, I love The Replacements and the new Adams record 'Cold Roses' with his new band The Cardinals seems like a return to form but I think he has the right to deviate and experiment (and fail) otherwise he'd be accused of being a one trick pony. Also I just wanna say, that the review although it made me laugh in places and I agreed with most of the analogies etc. was a little verbose and those ‘catchy’ little hyphenated terms scream ‘I wanna write for Mojo’ or I've just graduated from university perhaps?
