Love your work. HTOC was a mix-tape stable of mine for ages. That said, part of the problem with Great Escape is the album-straddling triumph of Albarn's aren't-the-little-people-twats? phase. That, and Ken Livingstone. By the way, I always thought that "Colombia is in top gear / it shouldn’t snow this time of year" was about Cocaine, which we can be fairly sure was swirling around the Blur camp at this time....

Again". ;-) I disagree with the 'whimsical'/'silly' lyrics, by the way. They are actually quite earnest, I think. This whole "the world is gone mad (around me), I wish I could escape" theme runs through the whole album, and is particularly strong here. And I always found the 'Blur = unemotional lyrics' argument a bit strange. They are very emotional, it's just not emotions toward a significant other, 's all.

So I pointed out that, in fact, it had a very specific meaning. To then be accused of crashing literalism seems a tad unfair. As for emotion towards a significant other, i disagree, Damon is quite clearly conducting a very powerful and meaningful relationship, it just happens to be with himself.
