I think if you have ever fallen in love with a foreigner, as I have, this film will be all the more meaningful to you. Hats off to Linklater, Hawke and Delpy, their combined work has struck a chord and it will resound for a long time. I was deeply moved by the film especially as I had only recently reunited with a love from my past after not seeing or hearing from her in over 25 years. I crossed the Atlantic in 1976 and fell in love with a beautiful girl from Nova Scotia. We had a wildly romantic few weeks in Montreal and then I returned to Europe but eventually we lost track of each other. Last Christmas was our first face to face encounter since then. This film says it all for me.

Since I hadn't seen the first film, I waited for a double bill to show up and see the films back to back; which i strongly recommend. Before Sunset is tighter than its predecessor because of its time contrainsts and almost plays out in real time. Sometimes the simplest things are the hardest and to make a film where two characters just walk and talk and still come out with a beautiful result is an amazing achievement. linklater, Hawke and Delpy are superb and the film is totally natural and unforced and ends up in what is a rare thing in the movies; its a moment of almost transcendent beauty and simplicity that you want to hold still in your mind forever
