It's clear early on that the director, Brian "Varsity Blues" Robbins, wants merely to exploit her. One of the first shots of her is from under a table looking up her skirt at her underwear.
In all fairness, the establishing shot of Lost in Translation is Johansson's fine arse in some sheer underwear, is it not? Ha!
I liked the point about the rigid SAT vs. the stereotypical roles the characters fit.
