Cold Mountain - Movie Review
2004-01-21
as with all of Anthony Minghella's films, they look good but the storytelling is clunky. Thus, he is not yet a great director. Great directors provide insight when adapting a book. They take the story as their own and a vision of their own. A "video" of a book is crap. The comic relief of Renee Zellwegger is welcome but it's poor. I kept waiting for the cotton to pop out of her cheeks. Comparing Cold Mountain to the work of Malick is insulting. Malick would never be so sloppy. He is delicate with his movements and pacing. His narrators drive the story to the point of dream.
