Pitfall/Woman in the Dunes/The Face of Another - Movie Review

I've read The Box Man by Kobe Abe incidentally. It's pretty good, and very odd, and I certainly think Abe and Teshigahara made a great cinematic team. Woman of the Dunes is a very good film, worthy of a much better score in my opinion. I was constantly reminded of Frankenheimer's Seconds when watching Face of Another. The former is one of my favourite films, and the latter doesn't compare that favourably. I thought Pitfall was more than decent though. I don't know much about Teshigahara's output outside of the Abe adaptations. They were a great meeting of minds; something about Abe's existential riffs on the themes of identity must have struck a chord. WitD is the real corker here though.

Crikey, everything is connected! I'm in the middle of an Antonioni project as well as watching several works by Resnais . . . now, with this review, I'm going to want to see all of these as well. It never ends, and I love it!

Yeah. I won't dispute the other two, but Woman in the Dunes deserves better.
