I applaud Thomas Inskeep for writing such a thoughtful article on one of CCM's biggest singers. I also understand why most members of this website would think that Amy Grant is complete crap. I side with Inskeep because I understand where he is coming from. I too, grew up with CCM because my parents wouldn't allow anything else (besides "oldies") in the house. It is worthwile writing about someone who had such an influence on so many during the 80's. The reason that a reader might say, "Amy Fucking Grant--Holy shit," is because they share no collective memory or nostalgia about 80's Christian Contemporary music. When people my age gather and remember the 80's, they think about Poison, Blondie, etc.. But for those of us who didn't experience those things until a bit later, Amy Grant and DeGarmo & Key are all we have. And I might mention that Inskeep's write-up is probably the most intelligent critique of Grant's music ever written. And for true fans of music, that should be worth something.
