Doom - Movie Review
I'm not sure what's more inexplicable: the idea to make "Doom" into a movie into the first place, or the idea to completely change around the game's story. What does throwing in all that genetic mutation nonsense really accomplish, aside from pissing off the only main audience for this movie-- people who remember the game fondly and want to see imps and cyberdemons onscreen? Stupid. And yet the box office will still blow away "Serenity."
i watched AVP for my so bad it's good fix earlier this year. i guess i'll wait till doom is on HBO to get my fix next year.
My question is, where's Katamari Damacy: The Movie?
That's an amazing idea! Maybe get Roland Emmerich on board. He has a knack for pointless destruction and Katamari would suit him perfectly.
I was thinking Uwe Boll. Anyways, DOOM IS TERRIBLE AND I ABHOR IT AND ALL WHO ENJOY IT.
Why no Hexen? Hollywood sucks...
Some friends dragged me to doom as a post joint celebratory stup-id fest. It just made me angry. Even the Rock sucked and he's usually the most dynamic character in his shitty movies. Oh well. What did I expect? Karl Urban's career is also officially down the drain from the heights he reached in LOTR. Oops.
Wow, I'm surprised anyone even saw this movie. If you guys saw this, would you see a Duke Nukem movie?
I learned my lesson with Resident Evil (and there they at least had a really decent storyline to work with, and STILL totally blew it)... never again will I watch a video game inspired film.
Apparently Hollywood will never realize that it's far easier to make a game from a film than it is to make a film from a game - and even THAT usually gets fucked up. Games today and movies seem similar in many ways, but the rhythms and contexts are totally different. Take Resident Evil 4. It's a stunningly good game, but would fail as a movie, because to make a faithful adaptation of it, the actors would have to spout the same dialogue and go through the same story. The dialogue and story work fine in the game, but in a film would just seem lazy, cliche, and ridiculous. Change them, though, and purists scream foul. I still think some games-to-films could be done well with the right people, but unfortunately most of those folks are off trying to make something original. Alas. I get excited about the possibilities of James Camoron doing Metroid Prime or Zhang Yimou helming Ninja Gaiden...
Splinter Cell is coming out in a bit. I can't wait for that one. The only problem is who to pick for Sam Fisher. Michael Ironside is too old, but his voice is what I know and love. It's a tough call. We'll see what happens.
I have a brilliant idea for Hollywood: Tetris - The Movie. It could star Charlie Sheen as a square block and Anjelina Jolie as a long block.
Reason Doom did so well at the box office: we have George Bush for a president. PS I agree with the Tetris idea
