Air - 10000 Hz Legend - On Second Thought

I've been waiting for this article to appear for ages now! I couldn't agree more, and i've been saying it for years - this is Air's most essential and downright best album. Its problem lies in the fact it takes a long time for it to grow into you... and most people (me included) disregarded it for a long time... but once I rediscovered it randomly it suddenly became one of my favourite albums of all time! Funny how these things work.

I couldn't agree more. It's always been the bastard child of Air's catologue, and that annoys me to no end. While I do think you've wronged Moon Safari, to sell Hz's brilliance I'll let it slide. Is there anything better than those harmonies on People In the City? No, no there isn't.

My favourite has to be the hypnotic opener 'Electronic Performers': "Machines gave me some freedom, Synthesizers gave me some wings.. We are electronics.. ics.. ics" 'Radian' and 'Caramel Prisoners' are spooky, and completely magical.. we can only hope Air will continue to astound

Give me tracks 1, 3-6, 8, and 10 and you've got a great album. "Lucky And Unhappy" beats the bejeezus out of "Wonder Milky Bitch".

Talkie Walkie is the Air album for people who don't like Air, but it and this article make me think I should give 10000Hz another go. I did quite like "Don't Be Light" when I heard it, anyway.

Did anyone ever notice the eerie similarity of "Electronic Performers" to Arovane's "Thaem Nue" from his Atol Scrap album? Atol Scrap came out about a year prior to this, and from the first time I put 10000Hz in my deck, Elec. Performers felt weird. Compare the first 4 seconds of both songs and tell me there's not more than a freaky coincidence there.

I'm always delighted to hear people stick up for this album. It's brilliant.

Great article.. I've finally rediscovered this album in the last couple of months, after throwing it aside disappointedly in 2001 (because, exactly like you said, we wanted more sugar and this didn't deliver). If a different band had released it it would have been called a masterpiece.. I hope Air continue to explore that darker, weirder streak on future records (though I love the bubblegum & pretty ambient stuff too, which Talkie Walkie fulfilled nicely).
