Malice Mizer - J-Pop Will Eat Itself
I just want to say that i enjoyed your article very much. I'm a big fan of MM since i heard Au Revoir, the very first song of them i found... and i would be one more that would surely read a whole column track by track. By the way, the wonderful voice in Le Ciel ~Kuhaku no Kanata e~ belongs, indeed to Camui Gackt.
If you don't expect them to play gothic type music, you must have ignored a significant part of their work. They started off as classically inspired gothic rock, and ended with metal/baroque/electronic gothic flavors. The visuals also do not bely their work, but rather serve to reinforce the themes it presents. I like to think of them as a sort of opera, as all of their shows have had a heavy theatrical element. Also, the drumming in Le Ciel is done by their fabulous drummer Kami. They didn't start to use a machine until after his death, when they switched to a machine and a support drummer, never officially electing a new drummer to honor Kami's memory. I'm glad you recognize them for the unique gem they are.
