Hystereo – “Futurlude (Deadbeats’ Focal Suas Mix)” (Soma)

Of all the remixes on Hystereo’s latest 12-inch, “Focal Suas” proves to be the strongest. Montreal-based producer Deadbeat tailors the Scottish duo’s “Futurlude” into a fashionably electro-leaning disco-house track with a classic rave aesthetic. Here’s verification that Soma is tactfully branching out from the tired tech-house it had peddled for years. The label’s star artists all seem to have upped the ante.

Sébastien Tellier (feat. Mr. Oizo) – “La Tuerie” (Lucky Number / Record Makers)

“La Tuerie” is certainly not the strongest track on Mr. Tellier’s 2004 sophomore effort, Politics. In fact, it sticks out like a sore thumb. Mr. Oizo’s input conflicts with the album’s overall methodical French indie pop aesthetic. It becomes a little unclear where Tellier’s input even lies in the song. In any case, on its own, “La Tuerie” is a solid electro ditty. Composed with a spare, lo-fi electronic palette, the track sputters along by way of unwelcoming drum pads and an offbeat squelch.

Muallem (feat. The Droids) – “Shanti Dance” (Compost)

The forthcoming LP by David Muallem (aka DJ Force), Frankie Splits, is a mosaic of Berlin-tailored digital hip-hop and disco. With “Shanti Dance,” Muallem takes a breather from the plethora of guest MCs (Beans, Wordsworth, Amazon, etc.), and teams up with legendary Italo-disco producer Fabrice Cuitade (aka The Droids). The track sounds about like what you’d expect: a melding of digital electro and organic disco.
