Another golden gem from the braintrust at Kitsune. The French label is like a tacklebox, it does nothing but put out hooks. This one goes “This sound is underground / It’s underground this is the sound / This sound is not what you’d expect.” The strings swarm and soon you’re not just tapping your feet, you’re clapping your hands.

Jose Gonzales- Heartbeats

Soft Swede Jose Gonzales released the remarkable single Crosses under the radar, at least to us in the USA, and his album on Peacefrog holds up to its quality… (After a brief bit of web surfing, I have found out this single was recently featured on the O.C. so scratch that). Regardless, this is a cover of The Knife single of the same name, and a remarkable testament to the ability of both acts. Jose also has a three-piece band called Junip.

M.I.A.lo- URAParis

My DJ partner and fellow Stycast guest Erik Pearson mashed these two together and the result is pretty much what you’d expect, that is, pure sonic bliss. As he put it to me “why this hasn’t happened before is beyond me.” This is a stypod exclusive, posted in honor of the M.I.A./LCD Soundsystem tour headed to a town near you.

Amerie- One Thing (Siik Remix)

Korean-American pop princess Amerie has the most effecting voice to make the charts since Kelis. Her lilting wail charms while it disarms. The a capella of summer smash One Thing will be sowed like sows, but here is probably its most brilliant use. Propagated by the Catchdubs/Certified Bananas axis, the “Siik” Remix softens it against a fluffy, chillout string section. And yet Amerie’s performance is not diminished, even coming off as more remarkable. I can’t get enough of this song.

Tepr- Yto

Straight off the Idwet label comes producer and Abstrackt Keal Gram member Tanguy Destables, a k a Tepr. With artists the Psykick Lyrikah, Mr Teddybear, Arm and the brilliantly-billed Robert Le Magnifique, here’s a collaborative effort that reflects the sternness of la langue francaise. Real clean sound, too.
