Gunslinger-R - Chiyo3

With all things Japanese still riding high at the moment this brief slice of Breakcore from last year should help you pass a minute and a half of your day. A permanent loop of some adorable pigtailed children sing a catchy schoolyard song against a backdrop of a nasty Tigerbeat / DHR beat. But instead of dragging the song out for seven minutes or so, adding superfluous elements to pad it out it’s kept short and sweet. Just like the singers probably. Awww, how cute!

Kid Koala - Moon River

Recorded live in early 2003 at Hollywood’s Knitting factory Koala (or Eric as his mother knows him) manipulates three turntables each playing Hepburn’s (I think its her anyway) “Moon River”. Keeping the song’s inherent melancholy…shit in fact adding to it, he keeps his scratching to a minimum and adds instead spacey comet trails and reverb.

Joanna Newsom - Prepared Harp Improv

What basically began as an exercise to warm her fingers up for a radio session became a curiously percussive piece of music which fits in perfectly with her released work so far. Instrumental and only a minute long there is a ‘begging to be soundtracked’ melody that hops between the harsher plucking of the snare like strings. Without her curio status vocals on the track its good to be able to concentrate on the playing. Like the Gunslinger-R track above it says everything it needs to in its short life span.
