- Actually, this formal introduction to the Awards ceremony wasn’t half-bad. Did someone just namedrop Stan Brakhage? Creepy.
- I tuned out a good part of Ellen’s speech; I was too mesmerized by that hideous outfit. Didn’t she get the memo? Dear Ellen, in choosing your Oscar night outfit, please try as hard as possible not to look like an androgynous Willy Wonka. Cheers.
- No surprises yet as Pan’s Labyrinth wins for Best Art Direction.
- The idea of Will Ferrell singing a song lamenting the Academy snubbing his work in Talladega Nights is actually pretty amusing… until Jack Black shows up.
- Oh, that’s right, Click was nominated for an Oscar, too bad it didn’t win.
- West Bank Story, huh? I kind of want to see that right now.
- I think Jack Nicholson shaved his head to show his disdain for being overlooked this year. Deal with it Jack! You’ve had enough glory. Making yourself look like a cancer patient isn’t going to provoke a sympathy nod here.
- Watching this sound effects choir leads me to wonder what it would have been like if Michael Winslow had been cast in Multiplicity. Meanwhile, I’ve switched from drinking Coke to guzzling beer. It’s officially going to be a long night.
- What Academy Award ceremony would be complete without a reference to Al Jolson?
- I’d like to apologize for not talking about who is winning what awards yet, but does anyone really care who the Academy believes to be the best sound mixer, or set designer?
- Boy, they’re really rushing things tonight. They’re not even showing more than a single, irrelevant line from the nominees’ performances. How are we supposed to gauge the quality of their work from that? Then again, has that ever been the point of the Oscars?
- Oh my, Alan Arkin wins for best supporting actor? This is sort of an upset. I thought Eddie Murphy was going to take it. See, I told you Eddie, you shouldn’t have mentioned Pluto Nash earlier in the evening, now how are you going to tout Norbit as featuring Academy Award winning actor Eddie Murphy? Tough luck.
