Star Trak, a partner with Arista Records, is the pet label of the production group The Neptunes. Formed by friends and co-producers Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo, what began as a hobby soon snowballed into a career as hip-hop’s most famous producers. From Britney Spears to LL Cool J, the Neptunes have been creating hits for the world’s pop stars.

Clipse, the duo that began with Pharrell is the label’s current success. Brothers Malice and Pusha T trade rhymes about the Virginia lifestyle over some of the Neptunes best beats. With their introductory album Lord Willlin’ debuting at number four in the charts, the group is enjoying major success.

Represented on the label as well, is the rock band N.E.R.D (or No one Ever Really Dies). Comprised of Pharrell, Hugo, and their friend Shay, the group blends alternative rock with the Neptunes trademark audio ballistics. As well as enjoying much commercial success for their album, N.E.R.D. has just won the Shortlist Prize, an award for independent music for their debut In Search Of... (while this may seem ridiculous, the album had sold less than 500,000 copies at the time of their nomination for the prize).

In addition, Star Trak hopes to introduce more artists into the mainstream. Spymob, a rock group, is enjoying support by the label, as are singer Kelis, a diva in the making and rapper Rosco P. Coldchain. With Pharrell recently named Songwriter/Producer of the Year by BMI, things seem to be looking very promising for him and the entire Star Trak label.
