A record over six months old is often discarded, deemed too old for publication, a relic in the internet age. That's why each week at Stylus, one writer takes a look at an album with the benefit of time. Whether it has been unjustly ignored, unfairly lauded, or misunderstood in some fundamental way, we aim with On Second Thought to provide a fresh look at albums that need it.

Selective Service is a mini-album that collects the singles from the Fading Captain series, those being; "Dayton, Ohio 19 - something and 5 (GBV)," "Total Exposure (Airport 5)," and "Stifled Man Casino (Airport 5)." It is truly a disappointment.

The only tracks worth mentioning are the actual singles, two of them are the same versions that appeared on the fairly decent Airport 5 album Tower In The Fountain Of Sparks, and the other is a live version of a song that appeared on GBV's classic Tonics and Twisted Chasers. The only thing I can say, is that the live version is really, really good. It is the sole reason for a rating... period. I apologize to all Postal Blowfish reading this, but it hurts me as much as it may hurt you. I am also thankful that this was released the same day as Circus Devils' Ringworm Interiors which kept my attention away from how truly dissapointing this piece of crap "Fading Captain gem" is.
